footsteps across the delta

At Footsteps Across the Delta you enter one of the great, untamed regions of Africa, the spectacular Okavango Delta, and experience the astonishing contrasts created when the mighty Okavango River flows into the arid Kalahari Desert. The result is a variety of habitats, riverine forest, palm islands, permanent swamps and dry sand veld all with an unparalleled wealth of diversity among species. This Ker and Downey program maintains the elegance and eccentricity of the original African safaris under canvas. The emphasis is on exploring this breathtakingly beautiful and diverse environment as the first African explorers did, in mokoros and on foot.

Accommodations are in specially designed twin bedded, insect proof tents with double fly sheets with sewn-in floors. Each tent has its own bucket shower and bush toilet, and a daily laundry service is provided. The bush kitchen, run by our chef, who has many years experience working in the wilderness, will astound you. The high standard of bush cuisine, includes fresh fruits and vegetables, and selections of cheeses and South African wines as well as a stocked bar, soft drinks and bottled water.

Walking in the Delta’s wilderness is the highlight of a “true safari” experience. No special training is required, as distances travelled are resemblant of early days, where the emphasis is on exploration and discovery – each morning tracking fresh spoor to reveal the nights events. Other possible activities include game-drives, mokoro trips or fishing.

Rates include:
• All meals, tea & coffee, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages
• Bushwalks or Mokoro with expert guide
• Game tracking on foot
• Fishing
